My cars AC makes a humming noise when I turn it on?

Donnell Mollo: your kanooter valve is loose. when the valve is closed your ac is off, but when you open the valve under normal circumstances it should allow the passage of air to all the ports in your car. when it malfunctions in your case from lack of use the mechanism that holds the valve open is either stuck or absent. so when the air rushes past it, the valve will wobble. this wobble is what causes the hum, much like when you blow across the edge of a piece of paper.they are almost impossible to fix without tearing out your engine so take it to a mechanic, make sure he is busy this way you know he is reputable. tell him your kanooter valve is messed up. pronounced kan- oo-ter. make sure he understands what you say because it sounds similar to another car part....Show more
